In 2017, Peter read David van Reybrouck's and Brett Hennig's books on Sortition-based democracy and was hooked. He was, at the time, politically illiterate, having all his adult life simpley accepted blindly that British democracy was the gold standard. Just like most other citizens he turned up every few years for an election and put a cross in a box. He then ignored the elephant in his brain trumpeting that the link between the cross in the box and democracy is an illusion. Having explored how our democracy and government actually functions he was shocked to discover how poor it is and decided to make campaigning for real democracy his 'next thing to do in life'. He believes that no substantial change to our society will come about until our basic democratic processes approximate to 'real' democracy, and he is therefore doing his best to help make that happen!
